Search Cotswolds on Booking.comThe Cotswolds works best when you choose a base for the holiday you actually want. Moreton-in-Marsh helps with a railway arrival, Bourton-on-the-Water offers a village-and-river stay, and Tetbury suits antiques and a separately planned garden visit. These are different starting points, not three hotels around one attraction. For a short break, the town or village where you spend the evening matters as much as the daytime scenery.
FIND YOUR BASE
Choose Moreton when you want to arrive by train and keep luggage in a town base. The Manor House illustrates a hotel with specific room-access choices, while the local guide compares a coaching inn.
Good for: Visitors planning a smaller car-free Cotswolds break.
Before you choose: The railway does not connect every village or garden. Check each onward journey and return before selecting an ambitious touring itinerary.
Choose Bourton when the Windrush, village bridges and a local attraction are enough to shape the main day. Chester House provides the family-hotel example, with an adults-only guesthouse comparison in the local guide.
Good for: Families and couples wanting a village to enjoy before and after a day visit.
Before you choose: Bourton is not a station-town arrival. Plan the final connection and parking, and do not assume all guesthouses accept children.
Tetbury offers a different emphasis: independent and antique browsing, a town evening and time for Westonbirt as a separate excursion. The Close gives a garden-hotel example.
Good for: Visitors making trees, gardens and town browsing the focus.
Before you choose: A southern base is not automatically convenient for a daily circuit of northern villages. Choose the main outing and its journey before the room.

Moreton-in-Marsh example for a rail-arrival base and an exact access enquiry.
Before you book: Confirm the entire room route and parking approach. The rear car park uses a gravel path described as unsuitable for wheelchairs; ask about front-door arrival assistance.

Bourton-on-the-Water example for a village stay with family-room choices.
Before you book: Confirm child ages, actual beds, floor and parking. A family capacity alone does not tell you whether extra sleeping places are conventional beds or sofa beds.

A village hotel with explicit three-person and four-person family categories. Choose the capacity that fits the party, then ask how those sleeping places are arranged.

Tetbury example for a southern Cotswolds town-and-garden break.
Before you book: Confirm the entrance and complete room route, actual beds and parking. A ground-floor label alone does not settle access needs. Choose a larger bed explicitly if a four-foot double is too narrow.

A Tetbury townhouse hotel with a garden and distinctly different bed sizes and bathroom arrangements. The room category can make a practical difference to a short stay.

ROMANTIC BREAKS
A village meal, a garden hotel or a rail-town inn can each anchor a relaxed stay. Select a room feature you will enjoy and leave enough afternoon time for it. Moving hotels after one night may add more packing than pleasure.
FAMILY BREAKS
Compare actual child beds and room policies before deciding between bases. One attraction and nearby outdoor time can make a full day. A region-wide list of picturesque villages is not a practical plan for every age or energy level.
A LITTLE ROOM TO EXPLORE
A suggested short break with room to enjoy your chosen base.
Reach Moreton, Bourton or Tetbury and enjoy that place for the first evening. Confirm the next day’s attraction, route and transport without committing to several distant stops.
Plan a garden or village connection from Moreton, a local Bourton day, or a Tetbury-and-Westonbirt break. Keep time for lunch and the return to your accommodation.
Have a nearby final morning, collect luggage and leave a comfortable connection. For a longer Cotswolds holiday, move base deliberately when it gives useful time in another part of the region.
Less time? For one night, choose one town or village and one main reason to stay. A broader Cotswolds journey is better given more nights and planned transfers.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Moreton-in-Marsh does. Bourton and Tetbury need their own final road or bus connection from the chosen station.
They are in different towns or villages. The cards show their actual physical locations so you can compare bases honestly.
We suggest choosing fewer places and spending useful time in them. Repeated transfers can dominate a short stay.
No. It is a region spanning county boundaries. The local guides keep individual places and their geography separate.
No. Confirm actual beds, ages, building and access. An adults-only main guesthouse and its separate family cottage can have different policies.
