Should I stay here or in Kirkwall?
Choose Stromness for its town character and a Scrabster-route arrival. Compare Kirkwall through the Orkney guide if its sights or your transport are more important. Neither is universally best for all the islands.
Can I see the prehistoric sites on departure day?
Only with a realistic route and enough ferry check-in margin. It is usually more comfortable to give a major outing its own day and keep departure local, especially when weather or sailing changes may affect travel.
