The 2026 visitor notice lists Thursday through Monday from mid-March to 1 November, with separate asset times. Check the date before choosing a room; Tuesday and Wednesday are normally closed.
National Trust lists buses between Penrith and Temple Sowerby, then a public footpath of about 1.3km to Acorn Bank. A limited direct service may run on Fridays; check the current operator timetable or arrange a lift for the final leg.
The Acorn Bank Watermill Trust runs the flour mill on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays from April to October, currently 11am-3pm. National Trust says volunteer millers demonstrate it and explain restoration; check the mill’s separate day before choosing your visit.
Assistance dogs only in the garden and watermill. Other dogs can use the courtyard and wider estate under the site rules.
