Good for: A wider northern-lake break with the falls as one full outing.
Before you choose: The northern-lake base means a longer road journey to the falls than Glenridding; the Aira Force boat stop is currently out of service.

Take the signed gorge circuit first and a lakeside return in daylight, then choose a Glenridding or Pooley Bridge evening.
FAMILY BREAKS
Use the welcome area and shorter signed paths if the group is not ready for the rocky viewpoint route; do not promise the waterfall bridge as a pushchair stop.
A LITTLE ROOM TO EXPLORE
Select the lake end that fits the second day, then choose a signed Aira Force route and return before losing daylight.
Choose The Ullswater Inn for Glenridding’s south-lake paths or Pooley Bridge Inn for a northern-lake village evening. A lake cruise is optional but cannot currently land at Aira Force.
Enter from the signed A592 visitor car park, use the National Trust path map for the gorge bridges and waterfall viewpoints, and turn back or extend onto Gowbarrow only with suitable footwear and conditions.
Glenridding guests can make a short pier-and-lakeside morning; Pooley Bridge guests can cross the village bridge and visit its pier before leaving.
Less time? For one night, stay in Glenridding, use the main visitor car park or plan the three-mile approach walk, and keep to the gorge rather than adding Gowbarrow Fell.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
No. The National Trust says the waterfall route is steep and rugged and not accessible by wheelchair or pushchair. The welcome area has an accessible toilet, but that does not make the falls route level.
The main Aira Force visitor car park is signed from the A592 near CA11 0JS. The Trust warns sat-nav can miss the entrance; it operates other Glencoyne, High Cascades and Park Brow car parks with different starts.
The Trust identifies a low-level off-road path of about three miles from Glenridding to Aira Force. Allow for the waterfall climb beyond that and check weather and return plans.
No at present. Ullswater Steamers says its Aira Force pier and sailings are closed until further notice. Use the signed car park, Glenridding footpath or a verified bus; lake cruises can still be a separate outing.
The Trust currently welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads. Keep them controlled around drops, bridges and other visitors.
