Where can I park?
There is no on-site car park. English Heritage lists free roadside parking and permits a set-down near the entrance for visitors with limited mobility.
Can I reach the top of the keep without stairs?
No. The upper keep uses a steep, narrow historic spiral staircase over four storeys, with no lift. The ground floor and much of the grounds have level access.
Is there more to see than the keep?
The castle includes ruined domestic ranges, the Tower of League and exhibits. Allow time for its River Eamont setting rather than making the stair climb the whole visit.
Is this a walk from Penrith station?
English Heritage puts the station about two miles away. A planned taxi or road transfer is more reliable than assuming a short level walk.
Can dogs enter?
English Heritage welcomes dogs on leads. Keep them close around rough grass, low walls and the moat slopes.
