BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Cadw places the independently operated café about 300 metres from the castle. Check its own opening before relying on a meal there; picnic tables are available at the monument.
Access is limited by gravel, lawns, cobbles and steps. The car park is grassed and has no dedicated accessible bays. Discuss the complete route with Cadw; the accessible toilet does not imply step-free access to the towers.
Dogs on short leads are permitted at ground-floor levels. That does not extend to every upper route, so plan the visit around the areas your party can use together.
Low walls near the moat and bowling green have drops, and tower stairs may be wet. Keep children close around these edges and use the handrails rather than treating the ruin as a climbing playground.
Last admission is thirty minutes before closing, with shorter winter hours and published Christmas and New Year closures. Give the castle more than that final half-hour if the visit is the reason for staying.
