Before you choose: The castle is outside the village and opens seasonally. Atholl House does not accept younger children, so it is not an all-ages family option.

FAMILY BREAKS
Atholl House excludes guests under 16. For younger families, discuss occupancy and beds with another property instead of assuming the island shortlist fits everyone. At Dunvegan Castle, read the current child and access guidance before planning the indoor route.

Complete the journey to your chosen base, checking the bridge or booked ferry route before setting off. Keep the first evening local and confirm dinner rather than heading immediately to a distant landmark.
From Sleat, consider Armadale’s gardens and museum; from Dunvegan, plan the castle and suitable grounds; from Portree, choose one manageable outing and return for a town evening. These are alternative days, not a single island circuit.
Leave time for the actual road journey and any sailing check-in. A final stop should fit the route and conditions, rather than becoming a reason to hurry on single-track roads.
Less time? For one night, choose the part of Skye closest to your main purpose and keep the evening there. A longer visit can justify a second base instead of repeated cross-island journeys.
