    Choose a manageable route at the RSPB reserve in suitable conditions. Natural ground, gradients and exposed coastal weather make this a different outing from the village. On ferry-departure day, prioritise reaching Port Askaig and the required check-in.

Less time? With one night, keep Port Ellen and one confirmed visit. Leave the Oa for another stay rather than sacrifice the ferry transfer margin.

Can I currently take the ferry directly to Port Ellen?

No. CalMac says the terminal is closed for works from 2 June 2026 until 2029; Kennacraig services use Port Askaig. Recheck the current notice and organise the onward island journey.

Does an Ardbeg House room automatically reserve a distillery tour?

The hotel asks guests to contact it before the stay to book the included tour, which remains subject to distillery opening and availability. The village hotel and distillery are separate places.

Can I walk out and use a bus back from the distilleries?

CalMac describes the Port Ellen-to-Ardbeg walk with a possible bus return when correctly timed. Check the actual outward and return timetable and reserve an alternative transfer if it does not fit your booking.

Are there toilets at the Oa reserve?

The RSPB says there are no toilets at the reserve, with the nearest in Port Ellen. Make a comfort stop before the outing and take the supplies needed for the time outside.

Is the Oa an easy paved promenade?

No. The reserve describes mostly natural, unimproved paths, soft ground, boardwalk sections and some moderate gradients. Ask the reserve about suitable routes if using an all-terrain mobility vehicle.
