Good for: Visitors arriving with luggage and families planning around a manageable base.
Before you choose: The descent to the old village is still steep. An upper-village room may simplify arrival but is not a promise of level beach access.
Staying among the lower lanes is a different proposition from using them as a daytime outing. Before choosing a cottage there, obtain exact unloading, key collection and luggage instructions from its operator.
Good for: Visitors who value the old-village setting and can manage the access arrangements.

Within the upper village, compare Hotel Victoria’s named view categories with The Grosvenor’s pub-with-rooms format. The more useful choice depends on whether time in the room, a view or the evening downstairs is central to your stay.
Good for: Couples and small groups choosing how much of the holiday to spend at the accommodation.
Before you choose: Confirm the exact building at Hotel Victoria, and check minimum stays and event noise at The Grosvenor. A coastal hotel name alone does not establish the room experience.

If the view is the occasion, choose a specified sea-view category and confirm its floor and access. Leave time to return from the lower village before dinner rather than underestimating the hill at the end of a long day.
FAMILY BREAKS
Choose room occupancy first, then a modest village or shore outing with time for breaks. Check current tides before any beach route and keep away from routes that could be cut off. A family bedroom does not make the village terrain suitable for every buggy or mobility need.

Keep the first full day in the village and adapt shore plans to current tides and conditions.
Use the operator’s directions, confirm parking and leave bags. Decide whether there is time and energy for the lower village before dinner rather than heading downhill automatically.
Explore the village at your pace, allowing for the return uphill. Only add a shore route after checking local tide and safety information. In poor conditions keep the visit shorter and choose a sheltered alternative.
Enjoy the view or a local breakfast, then leave time to reach the car or bus. Avoid a long beach outing before a fixed departure.
Less time? For one night, keep the plan to the village and a local evening, and check whether the property permits that stay length. The Grosvenor publishes longer minimum stays for weekends and bank holidays.
