From Goring, follow a short section of the Thames Path or choose the Trust’s Streatley woodland walk. From Reading, spend a morning in the town before departure.
Less time? For one night, combine the mansion and terrace with one base-town evening. Do not force the woodland trail into a short house visit.
BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
The Trust lists Pangbourne at about two-and-a-half miles and Goring & Streatley at about three miles. Neither has a taxi rank; pre-book a taxi.
The Trust advises against it because the route follows a busy main road. Treat the estate as a planned taxi or car outing.
The Trust describes a 400-yard uphill approach from the stableyard and 22 steps to the mansion showrooms. A visitor buggy may run when volunteers are available; stairclimber access needs advance arrangement.
Dogs on leads are welcome in the garden and parkland, but only assistance dogs are permitted in the mansion.
The Trust offers several waymarked walks. Its green woodland route loops through Pheasant Park and woodland back towards the house; choose it over a longer countryside walk if touring rooms too.
