BEFORE YOU CHOOSE
Pedestrians can enter the gardens from The Square at the top of Main Street. This is different from the car approach via the A1 and Weston Pavilion.
Historic Royal Palaces advises arriving at least 30-45 minutes before the slot to cross the gardens from the lower visitor centre. The main car park uses BT26 6TY; parking at the gate is not the end of the approach.
Bus 38 connects Lisburn with Hillsborough village, with the War Memorial stop near the pedestrian entrance. Use the dated Translink timetable to choose the connection and return.
The castle is scheduled to close on 30 September 2026 while gardens remain open, and on the morning of 14 November. A garden day is still possible, but reserve a different date if the state rooms are essential.
Buggies and large bags are not permitted in the castle. Free storage lockers are provided, but plan luggage around their actual capacity and leave suitcases at the hotel by arrangement where possible.
